• On July 30th 2026 a bug was discovered in Coldcard's system of seed generation, reducing enormously its enthropy. As a result of this, many people lost their entire savings.

• This section on hardware wallet (HW) seed generation is therefore temporarily suspended until I familiarize with alternative hardware wallets.

• Advice: when generating seeds via HW:

  • Avoid Coldcard for the moment (at least until the dust settles).

  • In general, adopt a multivendor/multisig approach: multisig wallets with each seed generated by a different brand of HW (and/or generated by dice and then imported in the HW).

  • For each seed, use strong BIP39 passphrases.
